At SkillStation, we believe that you develop best when you get what you need to thrive, without being forced into a template or timetable. We can agree on what would suit you best.

With the help of our team of tutors, you can test yourself to understand more about how you can use AI. During six weeks, you can learn more about what you want, at your own pace, without the pressure of syllabuses or grades. For example, it could be about how to fly drones, driving license theory or training dogs.

It is impossible to compare yourself to the others, because everyone chooses their own topic and works at their own pace.

A day at SkillStation

The day might look different depending
on your needs and what your project requires.

A typical day might look
like this...

08:30

Most people get together and check in with each other, but you might want to start right away.

09:30

Morning coffee.

09:45

Own work on your project. Sometimes there are lectures that are voluntary to attend.

A supervisor is always on hand at the SkillStation to be able to support you as needed.

11:30

Break for lunch. At Leksands Folkhögskola there is a good kitchen that serves good and popular food.

12:30

Short check-in if needed. Continuation with own project. In the afternoon we have a voluntary coffee break.

15:30

Mentors are available until 3:30 p.m.

A group of young people and seniors talk around the table while one person continues to research for himself. Here you can choose to share or not as you wish.

Safe environment

At SkillStation, we want to create respectful social interaction on your terms. If you can't or don't want to be social sometimes, that's perfectly fine. However we believe that feeling a sense of belonging with others is meaningful.

We have places for 12 people, 6 young and 6 seniors. Those who participate in SkillStation can contribute their insights and experiences about their own learning on a voluntary basis.

We are very careful to ensure that SkillStation is an inclusive and accepting environment.

What is SkillStation?

SkillStation is a new kind of educational environment financed by Allmänna Arvsfonden and owned by Leksands folkhögskola. Its target groups are young people and seniors. With the help of AI and tutoring, participants have the opportunity to develop their unique interests and skills.

In short, a program where you can learn "how to learn".

The idea for SkillStation came about during Christmas 2022 when Mats Svensson, who has worked as a teacher for a long time and started several projects over the years, experimented with the AI tool GPT-3 together with his grandchildren. The inspiration came from a story time where the children created a story about a clumsy hippo ballerina in the jungle.

As AI gained momentum, AI tools developed to enable learning practically anything on your own.

With a background of his own negative experiences of school as a teenager, Mats saw how AI could offer a new dimension of self-directed learning. He envisioned a platform that could inspire young and senior alike to learn on their own terms and at their own pace.

Inside the SkillStation premises there is a large table and a cozy sofa with a few armchairs where you can have coffee and talk through your ideas.

SkillStation is located at Leksands Folkhögskola in a room that minimizes distractions and is well suited for personal development and one's own learning.

The venue is located near the center of Leksand, out on a headland where Lake Siljan and Dalälven river meet, where old timber buildings house meeting rooms, accommodation and workshops, a bit like a village of its own.

WiFi is available on site. The premises and the boarding school are adapted for those who have a functional challenge.

We are proud to have support from the Allmänna Arvsfonden to explore how digital competence in AI can promote individual learning.

The General Inheritance Fund was established in 1928 when the Riksdag decided that cousins and more distant relatives should no longer have the right to inherit. Inheritance from those without family heirs and without a will now goes to a separate fund for public purposes where the recipients of the money are children, young people and seniors.
